Coconutrug is the first contemporary rug made in coconut fiber produced exclusively by G.T.DESIGN since 1989. A groundbreaking update of this collection, the new line Coconutrug I Glassati features a new coated finish of impermeable resins.

It is hand-woven on traditional looms by skilled artisans trained in the use of coir fiber, a primary source for the crafting of ordinary utensils such as baskets and ship ropes, fostering antique knowledge of handcrafting and use of natural materials. Coconut fiber – considered one of the most resistant natural fibers and known for its optimal properties as thermal and acoustic insulator – is used since antiquity in the naval field due to its capacity to resist mold, water and bacteria, rubbing and breakage.

An improved texture and aesthetics make Coconutrug I Glassati a perfect fit for summer houses, working well in areas with heavy footfalls, outdoor spaces and by the poolside. It features the charming unevenness of hand-weaving combined with clever technical ‘tweaking’ for an exceptional texture.
